An Icon for Zurich Airport
The following represents the competition-winning design entry for the future expansion to Zurich Airport. When constructed, the new airport terminal will stand as one of the largest mass-timber structures in the world as it greets passengers from around the globe. The feature element of the new design is the airport's future control tower, which ellegantly emerges from the building's tesselated glass atrium.
A Mass-Timber Terminal
The new terminal is comprised of 2 primary elements; an upgraded retail atrium and a main terminal for boarding gates. Throughout the entire building, locally sourced mass-timber will serve as the primary structural system.
Expansive Views to the Swiss Mountains
Zurich's new Dock A will take advantge of as much natural light as possible — featuring large expanses of glazing to both the north and the south.
